About the Association for Behavior Analysis International
The Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) is a professional organization with over 5,300 members. Its mission is to develop, enhance, and support the growth and vitality of behavior analysis through research, education, and practice. ABAI has its headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and its website can be found at www.abainternational.org. ABAI sponsors a convention that meets in May of each year in the United States or Canada and an international convention that meets elsewhere every two years. The 35th annual convention will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, May 22-26, 2009. For more information about the convention in Chicago please visit www.abainternational.org/convention/index.asp. Recent international conventions were held in Venice, Campinas, Beijing, and Sydney. In addition, ABAI has held or is planning themed conferences on such topics as autism and evidence-based education.
Affiliated chapters of ABAI include state and international organizations. Your state may have its own state chapter, many of which hold their own annual conference. ABAI Special Interest Groups (SIGs) provide a venue for behavior analysts who share an interest in a particular area to network. The Parent Professional Partnership and Autism Special Interest Groups represent only two of many special interest groups; however, the Autism SIG is the largest and most active SIG within the Association. If you are interested in the activities of a state or regional chapter or a special interest group, you will find contact information readily available on the ABAI website. ABAI membership information can be found at abainternational.org/mem.asp. If you are not already a member of ABAI, we encourage you to consider joining this important organization.
