ABA Courses

The DDDC Clinical Faculty, along with staff and faculty from other clinical programs within Rutgers, teach a 7-course sequence in applied behavior analysis (ABA). These courses are graduate-level courses covering the theoretical foundation of ABA and clinical applications of ABA. The courses have been approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board as fulfilling the educational requirements for exam eligibility. Students can complete these courses through the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology’s stand-alone Certificate Program in ABA, or as part of the course requirements for the Masters in ABA, Master of Applied Psychology with a Concentration in ABA, or for the Masters in Special Education with a Concentration in ABA. Students enrolled in School Psychology or Clinical Psychology doctoral programs may also elect to take this coursework.

Students who take this course sequence are eligible (education requirement) to take the national exam to become a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA). Coursework must be initiated prior to accruing fieldwork hours required to toward one’s board certification in behavior analysis.

Practicum

Each year several graduate students in psychology and education receive advanced training in the implementation of ABA-based instructional methods, behavioral consultation to staff, and leading parent and sibling support groups. As behavioral consultants, graduate students learn and practice state-of-the-art functional assessment and treatment procedures in coordination with the staff at the DDDC, while being supervised by a BCBA. The DDDC welcomes practicum students from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology’s doctoral programs in School Psychology and Clinical Psychology, Masters in ABA program, Master of Applied Psychology program, and Graduate Certificate in ABA program, as well as from the Graduate School of Education’s master’s program in special education. All students who complete practicum at the DDDC can use that time to fulfill some or all of the fieldwork requirement for certification as a BCBA. Internship

Additionally, the DDDC offers a pre-doctoral internship to doctoral students in School Psychology through the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology’s School Psychology Internship Consortium. Students who complete internship at the DDDC can use that time to fulfill some of the experience requirement required for certification as a BCBA.
