What is Fieldwork?

Rutgers University undergraduate students interested training in applied behavior analysis and autism can participate in Fieldwork in Autism. Fieldwork students receive training at the Douglass School or Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services. Students learn about autism and applied behavior analysis through hands-on training and relevant course lectures.

Location

Undergraduate students will be placed in one of three locations on the Douglass College Campus (to be assigned at the first lecture of each semester):

Course requirements

  • One clinical day (Monday through Friday from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm) per week at the DDDC (your schedule must allow for one full day at the center each week).
  • Supervised training on how to teach individuals with autism using applied behavior analysis
  • Implementation of a variety of individualized teaching programs addressing speech and language, prevocational, social skills, recreation/play, self-help and independent living skills.
  • Weekly 5th period lecture (discussion, demonstration, and practice). An advanced seminar for second semester fieldwork students.
  • Passing two exams (content covered in assigned readings and lectures).
  • Article critique/short paper.
